Indoor Competition 2: Vienna International – Team England (Jan 2019)

My first England vest since 2008! I won! And I jumped the European Indoor Champs standard! I am also currently ranked amongst the top-ten female long-jumpers in the world right now.

So many good feelings right now! 🙂

We both won.

I was clearly insanely happy. Haha

I had a mediocre series, at best. By series, I mean the jumps I took in each of the six rounds. But thankfully, I kept improving through the rounds, culminating in my BEST jump in the final round six – 6.55m! Pray for me this weekend (10th Feb) as I compete at the British Champs. See the rest of my comps and links to book your tickets here.

I am extremely thankful, as always, for being blessed by God with such an ideal team of coaches and physios. Everyday I thank God for the opportunity to be able to jump again. It’s something I won’t ever take for granted.

My team:

  • Nick Jones – Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach – DNA Performance Coaching
  • Tom Cullen – Jumps Coach
  • Kathryn & Tim – Physios at Athlete Matters, Worsley Physio Clinic.

This competition took place last weekend (Saturday 26th Jan 2019) and I apologise for those of you who have since messaged me requesting a performance update. I’ve been a bit slow on the uptake because…life!

Work is manic. Rest is manic. I know that’s a bizarre thing to write, but what I mean by that is this – resting is high-priority because I need to ensure I am getting adequate sleep (7.5-9 hours each night) for optimum recovery and performance. Bad sleep can have as negative an impact on my performance as not training or eating right.

But anyway, that’s a conversation for another day! Let me know if you’d like to hear about sleep, nutrition etc. in the comments.

Finally, for those of you who do, thanks for supporting the journey by reading these posts and encouraging me with your prayers and words of support.

Blessings,

Abs x

  1. Good Job, Abi ! Another win, and another excellent jump in the final round for you. I know I’m just one of the many who root, cheer, and pray for you. Keep up the good work and continued success !
