I baked banana bread the other day for a friend and was able to set aside a small amount for my housemate and I to share. SLIGHT ERROR. Sadly my willpower was not strong enough to stop me from eating a
slither small chunk each and every time I walked through the kitchen. Thankfully, there wasn’t a lot there to begin with!
That’s why I wonder, what’s in your kitchen? Because if it is sweets, chocolates, candies, popcorn, sweet bread, cakes, sodas, and other sugary unhealthy snacks and foods, you’re making your heathy-eating mission 100x harder! I’m working towards the Olympic Games and the see food, eat food diet is still very real. If it’s in the house, it’s hard to resist the temptation, so it’ll probably get devoured. The best plan of action? Don’t even allow unhealthy foods into your shopping cart!
So, aside from my banana bread that is no longer sitting on the kitchen counter, I’ll show you a few of my favourite GOOD food products in my kitchen.
Vita Coco Coconut Oil
Do everything from sautéing spinach or onions, to creating a yummy stir fry dish, to moisturising your hair! ‘Eat it, wear it, swear by it’ is Vita Coco’s 100% raw & organic, extra virgin cold pressed mantra. Check out the other Fabulous Foodie pages for recipes. I always cook with Vita Coco Coconut Oil.
Challenge: buy a tub of Vita Coco coconut oil and take a picture using it in your cooking (eat it), on your skin or hair (wear it) and let me know whether you get hooked (swear by it)!
Schweppes Sparkling Water
Refreshing! An awesome alternative to sugary sodas! Honestly, when somebody opened my eyes to sparkling water a few years ago, I was initially offended by the idea and then I was upset I hadn’t discovered it sooner. There are flavoured Schweppes drinks, but try the original first and you’ll be stunned at how much better you feel for it. Now, if I try a sugary soda like Fanta or Lemonade, it tastes far too sweet and artificial.
Challenge: Replace your sodas or cordial with Schweppes flavourless sparkling water for 21 days. Drink with 1/2 a squeezed lime or lemon for a natural burst of flavour.
The ‘NUT-ration protein mix’ contains 10g or protein per snack pack! It’s like the PERFECT snacking companion. So for those of you afraid of eating too many nuts in one sitting, you will love these handy packs! There are three flavours, but I stick with the honey nut Planters protein mix. It’s the best in my opinion. And I equally LOVE the Planters ‘Deluxe Mixed Nuts’. I add them to my homemade Birchers Muesli breakfast in the morning or grab a handful for a between-meals boost. Both products offer excellent value for money, are high quality and tasty, healthy, filling snacks.
Tip: Keep a NUT-rtion pack in your bag when you are on-the-go to avoid breaking your healthy-eating lifestyle.
I have so much love for tea! You may suggest it’s a British thing but whatever it is, I thank God for their existence. Whether it is 40 degrees Celsius, 100 degrees Fahrenheit or below freezing, I will sip tea at least 4-5 times during the day. Try it out. I also find them to be an incredible, guilt-free alternative to desserts, especially cinnamon or camomile and honey, for example.
Tip: make sure you have at least one or two caffeine-free blends in your collection to drink after 4pm so you can sleep at night!
Challenge: Use the 3-5 minutes it takes for your tea to brew to meditate, relax, decompress, put your phone down, stop faffing…just be still. Do this for 7 days and let me know how it makes you feel! (I recently picked up this idea after listening to a podcast with ‘Tea Queen’ Corrine Noyes.)
So now I’ve shared my secrets with you, what other tips do you have to satiate the sweet tooth and snack healthily? If your ideas naturally follow the healthy-eating rules rhyme from my previous post, I’ll happily give it a try!
